Do you just have to discard that content and play a mono/stereo asset via your audio engine/middleware or is the same binaural content played with the understanding that the effect will be lost? I love when audio teams take the time to cater to several possible playback devices knowing that only a certain percentage of users will ever play that way.Todd Helsleynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9193968969153274146.post-29020162352679795742015-10-01T10:18:32.860+02:002015-10-01T10:18:32.860+02:00should be *just recordingshould be *just recordingsam_justicehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18108460955269662261noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9193968969153274146.post-52113420928618567732015-10-01T10:18:01.486+02:002015-10-01T10:18:01.486+02:00Exactly what Cory says, every spaces surface has a...Exactly what Cory says, every spaces surface has a different texture and tonality. I honestly don't know a ton about 5.1 headphones because I don't use them, but depending on where the 5.1 is being simulated (at the game output, the system output or headphone mixer) my impression is that those headphones will be trying to simulate multi-channel output by receiving position data from the game or just taking phase information in the signal and making a judgement call on how it should be represented in your headphones. By trying to make a 2-channel binaural signal into simulated 5.1 I think you'd be breaking the important phase/occlusion data that makes binaural what it is.

It's probably worth an A/B test!

Source: game audio guyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9193968969153274146.post-70317717397108121332015-09-22T18:38:08.752+02:002015-09-22T18:38:08.752+02:00Thank you, so much!Thank you, so much!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01359936688089248579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9193968969153274146.post-8791336580199708802015-09-22T08:23:16.681+02:002015-09-22T08:23:16.681+02:00The binaural processing will be most noticeable on...The binaural processing will be most noticeable on the player character's dialogue - particularly when they are wearing a diving helmet. The effect of the binaural on the player's dry dialogue is that it sounds like the voice is coming from your position, in front of the camera. It shouldn't be effected by the 5.1 settings. One of the principle protagonists has some fun 5.1 processing on their voice and surround is a huge part of the sound of the game in general [and hugely important for the genre], so I'd leave it set to 5.1! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9193968969153274146.post-72137580744075668662015-09-19T21:56:22.977+02:002015-09-19T21:56:22.977+02:00I apreciate so much when people give detailed info...I apreciate so much when people give detailed informations about how they make parts of a game.
